Become a Tester
HOW TO BECOME A TESTER FOR THE AMERICAN DOG BREEDERS ASSOCIATION
SAFE DOG PROGRAM
Safe Dog Program Basic Level I:
Club officers, Judges, breeders, trainers doing obedience work, kennel owners and individuals having experience as an evaluator of the AKC Canine Good Citizen test (CGC) Test or American Temperament Test Society (ATT) can qualify to become testers with the American Dog Breeders Association. An application can be downloaded from the ADBA website or obtained by mail from the ADBA office. If your trainer is not familiar with the program and would like more information, the ADBA can assist the trainer in becoming a SDP tester.
Safe Dog Program Advanced Level II:
In addition to the qualifications of a tester of the Basic Level I listed above, individuals conducting Level II Part A: the Temperament evaluation should have additional qualifications as a canine behavior specialist or trainer. Someone with Schutzhund or experience doing protection work would be ideal. An application can be downloaded from the ADBA website or obtained by mail from the ADBA office. The ADBA can assist trainers with the necessary background in becoming a tester for the Safe Dog Program Advanced Level II.
Opportunities for SDP testers:
Once an individual’s application has been accepted, detailed information on the program and specific information on successfully conducting the Safe Dog Programs tests will be provided. Applicants will be asked to complete a tester exam prior to being certified.
ADBA Certified SDP testers will be listed on the ADBA website and contact information will be provided so that clubs and dog groups can contact them when testers are needed. Testers will also be encouraged to contact clubs to hold the SDP Level I testing at sanctioned and fun shows.
Qualified testers can also hold training classes for clubs and groups interested in socializing training dogs to pass the Safe Dog Program.
SDP Tester Payment and income opportunities:
Level I $10 per dog tested
Level II $15 per dog tested
Level II Temperament only (if Level I was passed at an earlier date) $5.00 per dog tested.
Safe Dog Stickers and Bandanas are available to purchase from ADBA at a discount, to sell to dog owners who have passed for additional income opportunities.
