New Mexico Tethering Bill Defeated

On Saturday, March 18, the New Mexico legislature adjourned sine die, which means the legislative session is completed and not returning.

The following anti-canine tethering bill was defeated:

Senate Bill 429 would of prohibited the tethering of dogs.. (1) “reasonable period” means a period of time not to exceed three hours a day, or a time that is otherwise approved by animal control; and (2) “tether” means that a person ties a dog with a rope, line or chain to a stationary object. B. No person shall tether or chain a dog, or cause a dog to be tethered or chained, for longer than three hours within a twenty-four-hour period;
