The looming dog shortage – Today’s Veterinary Business

https://todaysveterinarybusiness.com/looming-dog-shortage /

“Shelters do a great job, and euthanasia rates are dropping at a brisk pace. But shelters cannot come close to meeting annual demand for healthy dogs, and we need to do something about it.”

Amazing that an article in a vet journal glosses over the diseases brought in by the million (yes, they say million) dogs brought in from Asia and the Philippines every year.

And that no mention is made of the chilling effect on breeding by AR legislation (of which the vets seldom come down on the correct side), breeder bashing, and the rescue dog craze. Although I am glad the vets are coming to recognize the impending dog shortage, I am tempted to ask where they are when ridiculously restrictive laws on dog ownership and breeding are passed.
